Leslie Leo-August

I have been a part of the Wonderland family since 1988. I have played a variety of roles during my time at Wonderland; first as a parent, then chairperson, and since 1989 as teacher.

I have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Maria College, and a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education/Sociology from Russell Sage College. As a member of the National Association of Young Children, I continue to grow professionally through workshops and conferences.

As your child’s first teacher, I will provide a planned environment, include materials and first hand experiences and a patient atmosphere. Children are “learning to learn.” Every child is an individual, and my job as the teacher and your job as a parent is to know your child and meet his or her needs.

After working 12 years in an accounting field, I decided to take some time off when my fourth child was born. I was lucky to have the opportunity to stay home for nine years after the births of my two youngest children. I am a mom at heart, I have never missed one of my children’s activities. I am their biggest fan at plays, NYSMA (both band and chorus), spelling bees, holiday concerts, soccer basketball and baseball events. I have taught Junior Achievement, been treasurer for Rotterdam Little League and am involved with Sabre City and the Schalmont Athletic Association.

Just before my youngest graduated from Wonderland Nursery School, I had been asked one simple question, what are you going to do now? Once again I was lucky enough for the right opportunity to come along. I was asked to continue being part for the Wonderland Family. So since the fall of 2010, I have been singing, dancing, playing, and best of all, educating young minds. My passion is to teach children that the world is theirs to explore and experience.

I am formally a stay at home mom of 4 girls. All of my daughters have attended Wonderland Nursery school. I started off as a parent in 2005, then as a board member and now I have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Wonderland staff. I am excited for this new chapter in my life, working with preschool students has always been my passion. I look forward to working with your child.
