Leslie Leo-August

I have been a part of the Wonderland family since 1988. I have played a variety of roles during my time at Wonderland; first as a parent, then chairperson, and since 1989 as teacher.

I have an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from Maria College, and a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education/Sociology from Russell Sage College. As a member of the National Association of Young Children, I continue to grow professionally through workshops and conferences.

As your child’s first teacher, I will provide a planned environment, include materials and first hand experiences and a patient atmosphere. Children are “learning to learn.” Every child is an individual, and my job as the teacher and your job as a parent is to know your child and meet his or her needs.

After working 12 years in an accounting field, I decided to take some time off when my fourth child was born. I was lucky to have the opportunity to stay home for nine years after the births of my two youngest children. I am a mom at heart, I have never missed one of my children’s activities. I am their biggest fan at plays, NYSMA (both band and chorus), spelling bees, holiday concerts, soccer basketball and baseball events. I have taught Junior Achievement, been treasurer for Rotterdam Little League and am involved with Sabre City and the Schalmont Athletic Association.

Just before my youngest graduated from Wonderland Nursery School, I had been asked one simple question, what are you going to do now? Once again I was lucky enough for the right opportunity to come along. I was asked to continue being part for the Wonderland Family. So since the fall of 2010, I have been singing, dancing, playing, and best of all, educating young minds. My passion is to teach children that the world is theirs to explore and experience.

I have been a part of the Wonderland community since 2007. I have three children who attended Wonderland. I started as a parent, then joined the board and then became an Assistant Teacher.

I have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I have been working with children for the past 20 years in various ways – as a daycare teacher, in afterschool programs, and as a nanny and caseworker. For the past 12 years, I was lucky enough to be at home raising my children. Now that they are all in school, I am excited to be able to work with children again outside of my home and in the Wonderland environment.

Carrie Caputo

My name is Carrie Caputo. I’m 41 years old and have been a lifelong resident of Rotterdam. I attended the Junior College of Albany for two years and graduated with an associates degree and finished my four years in Elementary Education at the College of St. Rose. I was a fourth-grade teacher for nine years at St. Paul the Apostle school in Schenectady and I taught for a year at Holy Spirit School in East Greenbush. I have two daughters. My oldest daughter, Shealyn, is 13 years old and is in eighth grade at Draper Middle School. My youngest, Payton, is 10 and is in fifth grade at Pinewood Elementary. Both of my girls have gone to Wonderland and have had Mrs. August as their teacher. We have had nothing but wonderful and amazing experiences there. As a parent, I’ve always been able to get guidance and opinions on what my children needed to succeed. I’m looking forward to starting a new experience at Wonderland. Thank you for this opportunity!

I have had the opportunity to be a stay at home mom for the past 4 years. I have 4 daughters ages 16, 13, 10, and 5. All of my daughters have attended Wonderland Nursery school. I started off as a parent in 2005, then as a board member and now I have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Wonderland staff. I am excited for this new chapter in my life, working with preschool students has always been my passion. I look forward to working with your child.
